  Harman Speaker Manufacturing, Los Angeles, California designs, develops and manufactures loud speakers for Harman International's corporate brand name companies as well as for OEM clients such as Magnavox, Mitsubishi, Sharp, Yamaha, Radio Shack and Hitachi. In order to successfully capture this type of prestigious OEM business, Harman Speaker Manufacturing had to adopt world class management methods.
In 1988, Jerry Feingold, President, began the search for a management tool that would help his organization concentrate on "doing the right things." Jerry brought in TMI's Managing Personal Performance
and the Time Manager results tool for all 200 management personnel. The training program focused on communication and helping participants to better understand the organization's goals and objectives and turn these into "Key Areas" for day-to-day action. Performance against these Key Areas served as the basis for monthly progress reports, quarterly management meetings and annual performance evaluations.

RESULTS: "Both the management and technical staffs have benefited greatly from this approach," says Feingold. "The emphasis on setting difficult goals and on stressing high quality and customer satisfaction has also influenced the hourly workforce in the factory." Harman Speaker Manufacturing now completes their annual planning in a half-day session instead of a week. And the president attributes, in part, Harman Speaker Manufacturing's success in increased profits to this goal setting and Key Area result process provided by TMI.
