Eight Glasses A Day !

You've probably heard that drinking eight glasses of water a day is good for you so many times you don't care if you see another glass of water again. So, let's look at some of the obvious and not-so-obvious reasons why you might want to put a glass of water on your desk and keep drinking.

It will help keep your skin moist and supple. Dry skin wrinkles more easily. The best way to keep the water in your skin is to cover your face with a moisturizer (or your body with lotion) after your morning shower, or your evening face wash. You have to keep replenishing the water you lose throughout the dayhence those eight glasses.

You'll have more energy. Even a 5% dehydration can cause fatigue, both physical and mental. For those of you who are talking on the phone during the day, you expel a great deal of moisture through your voiceespecially if you have a loud voice. You'll find your brain functioning better as long as you keep drinking water.

You'll transport nutrients throughout your body more easily, thereby taking advantage of the food you are eating. Your digestive systems needs a lot of water to help pass food through its elongated route. Think of water as the U.P.S. system of the body. Guaranteed to get there!

Water can better lubricate your joints. If you are sitting all day long without a great deal of movement, and you are getting stiff, it's a sign to consume more water. Think of all those fluids that surround your joints. The fluid is mostly water and it needs replenishing.

Body temperature has a lot to do with water. If you are hot or running a temperature, then it's a good idea to consume even more water.

If you're trying to lose weight, then drinking water is even more critical. It helps your digestive system, and gives your stomach a fuller feeling.

How about coffee and colas as a substitute for water? Obviously, coffee and colas contain a lot of water. They also, in most cases, act as a diuretic, which means you'll need to drink even more water. And there really is no comparison between a fresh glass of spring water and a cup of coffee in terms of how your body will respond.

If you really want to see what water does for you, try an experiment. Go for an entire week at work drinking half your usual amount of fluids. At mid day, and at the end of the day, write down how you feel. Then spend the next week drinking those eight glasses of water, and note how you feel at mid day and at the end of the day. We'd be very surprised if you don't feel better with the water than without.
