Cell Phones and Children

A growing number of young people are carrying cell phones and using them in high frequency. So another alert signal has been released about the safety of cell phones.

This time it is from British physicist Dr. Gerard Hyland who lrecently published his research in the medical journal The Lancet.

Hyland is concerned about young people using cell phones because their immune systems are not so robust as adult immune systems. As Hyland points out, "Radiation is known to affect the brain rhythms and children are particularly vulnerable." His research points to sleeping disorders, headaches, and memory loss among teenagers who use cell phones.

While no one is saying that there is a definite link between use of cell phones and brain damage, Hyland suggests that if mobile phones were a type of food, no reasonable government would approve it for safe consumption. He says there just isn't enough known about the impact of low intensity radiation on growing brains for us to be blase about a potential health risk of this magnitude.

It be overwhelming for parents to think there is another health risk for their young children. The reality, however, is that we are changing our environment so rapidly it is reasonable to expect there are a whole host of health risks that we simply haven't identified as of yet. It's probably better to be safe than sorry on this risk.
