HOW TO DEVELOP SELF-ESTEEM

Self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself. When you strengthen your feelings of "okayness" about yourself, you have more capacity to contribute to other people's lives. In addition, you will make personal decisions that will better support your happiness and well-being.

Listed below are some simple techniques you can use to increase your self-esteem.

Get plenty of exercise. People who exercise report feeling better about themselves. Even a twenty-minute walk can restore a positive mood.

Do something for someone else. A simple act of generosity can make you feel connected to your entire community. This in turn supports a feeling of larger purpose than simple self-interest. And, besides which, you'll get to enjoy another person's thanks.

Read an inspirational quote. A simple quotation can inspire you out of negative self feelings. Keep your favorite message available (posted on a wall, or in your wallet) so you can look at it whenever you want to do something to increase your self-esteem.

Remind yourself of the successes you have enjoyed. Each one of us has unique capacities. When we feel bad about ourselves, these successes are easily forgotten. Make a list of your successes so you can read them when you need a self-esteem boost.
